Our Roots

Our story began in 2008 at a Lipscomb University Sustainability Conference where speakers, Tiffany Wilmont and Laurel Creech, noticed the lack of female representation and recognition at the event. They found that the men at the conference outnumbered the women 9 to 1, even though there were five female speakers presenting at the conference. These women banded together afterwards to invite their friends and acquaintances who were passionate about sustainability to a small gathering at Whole Foods Market in Green Hills. Little did they expect, 100 local women showed up that morning in support of their environmental mission. What they thought might be a few small gatherings with friends became something so much larger.

We continue to grow in membership and leadership, thanks to our many members and sponsors who support our mission. We are proud to host local and national speakers, organize networking social events, and provide a great way to meet and network with others who are committed to environmental sustainability.

We are Tennessee Women in Green, made up of a diverse group of women throughout the city of Nashville and state of Tennessee, who work to empower each other and learn about environmental sustainability together.
